West Wittering Parish Council purchased on behalf of the village the Millennium Meadow in Elms Lane and WWCC negotiated a 42 year lease. Moved from Rookwood Road ground to Millennium Meadow, Elms Lane. Fundraising over 2 years together with large grants from the Woodger Trust and Chichester District Council enabled the Club to build its very own pavilion for the first time in the history of the Club. In April 2003 the first match was played on the new ground. A very special cricket match against the National Theatre (from London) was held on Sunday 13th July when over 200 villagers witnesed the launch of the “WWCC Woodger Pavilion”.
1940’s
Due to the war effort, the ground was cultivated for growing crops. The Club then moved to its ground in Rookwood Road - donated to the Parish by Mrs Dent of Elmstead House, where it remained for nearly 60 years. The Rookwood recreation ground was donated to the village for sporting activity by

West Wittering Cricket Club founded - pitch we believe in field on Cakeham Road, opposite entrance to The Byeway.
Henry Royce moved into the village circa 1917 and, it is thought, the young design engineers who came down from Derby, together with some local villagers started up the club. Sir Monty Marmont, Henry Royce’s private secretary, was a key player in the team (see Photo Gallery of W Wittering Cricket Team outside Old House at Home Pub circa 1928).
